Start with the quadratic set equal to zero.
Look for two numbers that multiply to 6 and add to −5.
−2 and −3 work, so the expression factorises.
A product is only zero if one of the brackets is zero.
So solve each bracket on its own.

Divide the total by eight to find what one part is worth.

The first share is three of those parts.
