Maths tuition that behaves like good teaching
Upgrade Maths exists to give GCSE and A-Level students the thing that is hardest to get from a busy classroom or a one-off tutor: consistent, structured teaching that starts where the student actually is.
Every student follows a scheme of work. Every lesson has the same shape. Homework is set, submitted and marked. Progress is written down and sent to parents each term. None of that is exotic. It is simply what good teaching does, delivered online in groups of no more than6 or one-to-one.
What we believe, and what it looks like
Every tuition service says it builds understanding. These are the specific things we do about it.
Genuine mathematical understanding

Every hour opens with ten minutes of retrieval rather than new content, so nothing gets built on ground that has not been checked first.
Fluency, so the hard part is the hard part

A fifteen-minute fluency block in every lesson. Once the routine steps stop costing thinking time, there is attention left for the part of the question that actually needs it.
Exam technique, taught all year

Every lesson ends in exam-style questions marked the way an examiner marks them, so exam practice is continuous rather than something that starts in April.
Structure, not a series of one-offs

A scheme of work rather than unconnected sessions, the same tutor every week, and homework that is set, submitted and reviewed rather than suggested.
Different starting points, taught differently

Foundation and Higher are taught separately rather than sharing a room, as are Year 12 and Year 13, and one-to-one students work at their own pace from wherever they are now.
Our tutors
All tutors are qualified and experienced, hold an appropriate DBS check, and are safeguarding trained. Students and parents deal with the same tutor week to week, which is what makes a scheme of work possible in the first place.
